App for Water/Oil temp monitoring

What solution do people have for the lack of temperature gauges? I've got an E87 130i and the missing temperature gauge is annoying.

Are there any apps which actually work with the E87? To monitor water/Oil temps and check any fault codes.

Thanks

Torque App and an Ebay ELM 32 adapter should do it, I can read codes (probably not BMW shadow codes) with mine and you can set up all manner of gauges etc including water temp on customisable screens.

How did you find a working oil temp gauge on Torque? I have a working OBD adaptor and it shows throttle etc just fine, but I only have one option for Oil temp and it always displays 0...

To be fair I have never tried the oil temp, but water temp works fine and I have an oil temp gauge. I will have a try this evening and let you know.

I've ordered a Bluetooth OBDII adapter off eBay so I'll give the Torque app a try.

I've used a Scangauge on a previous car and that wouldn't display oil temp as there wasn't an oil temp sensor fitted, maybe this is the same case?

Oil temp is a bit of a faff on a pre face lift car. I don't think torque can find it.

Will display coolant though. Great bit of kit.

it may be possible to add it as a custom pid/sensor but that's beyond the scope of my knowlege

Not the exact same car I know but on a 2007 Z4 3.0si I tried both the Dash Command App with an iPhone and Torque Pro App with an Android phone and 2 different OBD adaptors and could only ever see Water Coolant temp not oil temp which is what I wanted.
Interestingly the actual water temp moves more during driving than the heavily damped dumb dashboard coolant gauge which just sits in the middle as designed.
An expensive Snap-on garage diagnostic tool plugged into OBD can read oil temp but in my experience the apps can not.

So I bought an ELM327 Bluetooth OBD reader and downloaded the Torque Pro app but the reader won't connect to the ECU. Paired it to my phone as instructed but still no luck.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

iPhones need a wifi OBD adaptor and use wifi on your phone. Android phones need a Bluetooth OBD adaptor then use Bluetooth on the phone.
My adaptor doesn't always power on as it should, sometimes you have to plug it in just before you switch on the ignition and engine.
Thanks

Just wondered if anyone had an update on this ? Looking for a solution for my M140i - P3 look to be 'the' answer but honestly I just don't think I need to worry about temps 90% of the time only when doing some 'spirited' driving… wondered if anyone had come across a nice solution ideally somewhere south of the £375 that P3 would like for there's (tight I know).

You're in the E8x section, if you pop over to the mlite board you'll probably gett better answers.

That being said... Bimmerlink and a phone mount works great if you don't particularly care about it being well integrated like the P3 :D
